RFI CDR5000 UHF CB Antenna – 5dBi Q-Fit Collinear (477MHz)
The RFI CDR5000: Full-Band UHF CB Performance, Without the Bulk
Whether your convoy running the Simpson, running tracks in the High Country, or just need reliable comms for the daily drive — the RFI CDR5000 UHF CB Antenna delivers consistent 5dBi gain across the entire 477 MHz UHF CB band, no tuning, no fuss.
Built on RFI’s patented Meander collinear PCB technology, the CDR5000 achieves true pattern and gain stability that traditional whip antennas simply can’t match.
At 930mm and just 16mm in diameter, it’s engineered to be lightweight enough for mirror, guard, or bull bar mounting — yet rugged enough to handle corrugated outback roads.
The Q-Fit removable whip system is a genuine gamechanger. Pop the whip off in seconds before entering a car park, drive-through, or car wash — a waterproof cap keeps the base protected when the whip is removed. No more wrestling with low clearances or worrying about snapping your antenna.
Comes complete with 5m of low-loss RFI 9006 coax cable, an FME female connector, and a UHF-to-FME adapter — everything you need, ready to install. Pre-tuned from the factory: just mount, connect, and transmit.
Why 5dBi? Why the CDR5000?
5dBi is the sweet spot for mixed-terrain Australian driving. Unlike 6.5dBi high-gain antennas that compress signal into a narrow horizontal beam (great for flat plains, terrible for hills), or 3dBi stubbies with limited range, 5dBi strikes the balance: enough gain to extend your range on the highway, still reliable when you’re heading up or down a ridge.
The CDR5000 is the lighter sibling to RFI’s heavy-duty CDQ5000 — same patented PCB Meander technology, optimized for vehicles where every gram counts or where mounting points are less rigid.
FAQ’s
What is the difference between the RFI CDR5000 and the CDQ5000?
The CDR5000 is the lightweight version of the CDQ5000. Both use RFI’s patented Meander collinear PCB design and deliver 5dBi gain at 477MHz, but the CDR5000 uses a medium-duty spring assembly suited to guards, mirrors, and bull bars, while the CDQ5000 is built for heavier-duty off-road mounting. If you’re not running hardcore 4WD tracks, the CDR5000 is the ideal choice.
Do I need to tune the CDR5000 after installation?
No. The RFI CDR5000 is pre-tuned at the factory to cover the full 477 MHz UHF CB band. VSWR is less than 1.5:1 straight out of the box. Just mount, connect the cable, and it’s ready to use — no SWR meter or adjustments needed.
What does the Q-Fit system do?
Q-Fit is RFI’s quick-release whip system that lets you remove the antenna whip in seconds — no tools required. This is especially useful when entering multi-storey car parks, drive-throughs, or car washes where clearance is limited. A waterproof cap is included to seal the base while the whip is removed, preventing water and dust ingress.
Will the CDR5000 work on flat terrain and hilly areas?
Yes. 5dBi gain is widely recommended as the all-terrain sweet spot for Australian conditions. It provides meaningful range improvement over 3dBi stubbies on flat open ground, while maintaining adequate vertical radiation angle for communication in hilly and undulating terrain — unlike 6.5dBi high-gain antennas which can struggle in hills.
What cable and connectors are included?
The CDR5000 ships with 5 metres of low-loss RFI 9006 coaxial cable terminated with an FME female connector, plus a UHF-to-FME adapter. This suits the majority of popular UHF CB radios available in Australia.
What mount does the CDR5000 use?
The CDR5000 uses a standard 13mm threaded stud mount — compatible with the vast majority of bull bar, guard, and mirror mount brackets available in Australia.
Is this antenna ground plane independent?
Yes. The CDR5000’s Meander collinear PCB design is totally ground plane independent, meaning it performs consistently regardless of where it’s mounted on your vehicle — no need for a large metal ground plane like traditional antennas require.
What frequency range does the CDR5000 cover?
The CDR5000 is tuned for 477 MHz (Australian UHF CB) with an operational frequency range of 470–490 MHz. It covers all 80 UHF CB channels without any tuning or adjustment.
